Open Apiary- Omaha (Nebraska)

Description

Open Apiary times are an informal unstructured gathering of members of the Great Plains Master Beekeeping program at the Bohemian Cemetary Omaha Bee Club Apiary. There will be brief demonstrations, questions and answers, and time to get hands on experience with beehives. Open Apiary times will be from 9-11 am. The open apiaries will be the first Saturday of the month starting in March and ending in November. Open Apiary will count as 2 hours of field training towards your progress through the Great Plains Master Beekeeping program. 

Topics for Each Date:

March 12th - Weather permitting: clean-out/post-mortems (as necessary)

April 2nd - Inspections/varroa testing/treatment

May 7th - Installations/swarm control/making splits

June 4th - Queen Marking

July 2nd - Varroa Testing/treatment

August 6th - Re-queening?/prep colonies for super removal

September 3rd - Varroa testing/treatment

October 1st - Wintering

November 5th - Weather permitting
