This is an introductory level course that focuses on everything you need to start beekeeping, including topics on beekeeping equipment, protective gear, honey bee biology, stressors, and management basics.
This course is 3 hours long, twice weekly for 3 weeks. It consists of 6 sessions of class focused on all of the many different kinds of pollinators, but there are several lectures dedicated to honeybees. An experienced beekeeper will teach all honeybee related classes. This course covers both Apprentice level beekeeping topics but goes into depth on Master Level topics such as other beneficial insects and farming for beneficial insects.
This Beekeeping for Beginners class utilizes classroom sessions, our textbook The Backyard Beekeeper 4th Ed, handouts, plus months of hands-on and open-hive learning options. Students are taught how to prepare for keeping bees, shown how to install bees into a hive, and guided through the beekeeper year.
